Vancouver International Airport
Parkade Covered Walkway
 Richmond, BC

To provide weather protection for the pedestrian walkway from the parkade rental car level, a fabric canopy was designed with an aero-tectonic expression to compliment the design vocabulary of the airport terminal. The project also includes widening the pathway to accommodate two-way pedestrian traffic with luggage carts, reduction of the existing pathway grade, and improvement to the illumination along the pathway.







Kitimat Modernization Project
Cafeteria, Change House and Guard House Complex
 Kitimat, BC

Rio Tinto Alcan intended to complete construction of the fully modernized aluminum smelter in Kitimat, British Columbia. As part of the Kitimat Modernization Project, this 2 storey, 4500sm complex is designed to contain a 350 seats Cafeteria, a Change House of 2000 lockers for male and female workers and a Guard House, which will be the main secured gateway for the whole aluminum smelter complex. The emphasis is on maximizing natural daylight and scenic views to the surrounding mountains. Service line of the cafeteria is designed to ensure speed and effectiveness of the distribution of meals. This complex, when completed, will present itself as a signature gateway building and will be one of the first non-processing buildings completed within the smelter complex.



Vancouver International Airport  Richmond, BC

This is a 1,115 sm (12,000 sf) office tenant improvement located at the 5th floor of the Link Building at Vancouver International Airport. The space accommodates 2 major departments, which are relocated from the Domestic Terminal Building – Operations Department and IT Department. The project site is located right next to an operational office.


Coast Mountain Bus  Vancouver, BC

Chernoff Thompson Architects has provided design for over 7 renovations to various offices and support personnel working areas for staff of the Coast Mountain Bus Company. This includes Gateway Surrey, Surrey Transit Centre, Richmond Transit Centre, Port Coquitlam Transit Centre and Handi Dart dispatch facility in Surrey.



Commercial Wood Building
Technology Place II BCIT Campus
 Burnaby, BC

This office building design has 11.5 times more wood than a conventional office building. An innovative timber and concrete structural deck system uses 3 layers of cross laminated 2X6 (grade #2/3) Beetle Killed Pine. Compared to standard to standard concrete options, this construction system uses less than half the amount of concrete by volume. The composite system also uses 20% less material by volume than 50% less material by weight. The extent of wood usage can be further expanded with potential use of prefabricated wood panels for exterior walls envelope. The intent of this building is to showcase and promote the use of wood as a primary building and structural material.



Pacific Coast Terminals Office Building  Port Moody, BC

This 1,580 sm (17,000 sf) office building for Pacific Coast Terminals in Port Moody, B.C. is a design build collaboration to provide staff facilities, general offices, and corporate offices at a bulk loading terminal. The siting and placement of offices affords excellent visual contact with activities on the site for managers as well as a view to the water.


Office Building and City Parkade  Prince George, BC

A 4,366 sm (47,000 sf) office building in Prince George, BC. This building accommodates office, retail and personal service spaces at the ground floor and provides corporate office space at the upper levels. A new parking structure allows for parking at grade and two levels below grade.

Cash Money  Various Locations

CTA has been engaged to provide architectural services currently for 22 locations of Cashmoney stores across Canada. We produce site surveys, provide complete construction document packages, obtain building permits and provide construction administration for new and renovated stores within a tight design and construction schedule.

CIBC Branch Renovations  

Over 45 renovations to CIBC Bank branches in the Lower Mainland to accommodate new corporate design requirements and improved technology.


CIBC Branch  Abbotsford, BC

A brick veneer building for a new bank branch. The client wanted a building that established a strong urban presence while integrating into the existing neighbourhood.


Scotia Bank Branches  

CTA has provided services for new and renovated bank branches at Mulberry Place Burnaby, Park Royal West Vancouver, and Prince George. Our services provided new corporate imaging and technology updates.

Pemberton Building Upgrade  Vancouver, BC

The assignment for this project, an upgrade of an office building constructed in the early 1990's, involved an intital feasibility analysis of existing building and code problems. The building was subsequently upgraded and several tenant improvements were implemented.



Training Centre  Vancouver, BC

This 130 sm (1400 sf) combination training facility and boardroom for Commonwealth Construction provides a state-of-the-art meeting place for a variety of uses. Full audio-video projection is possible for allowing for multi-media presentations and teleconferencing. Communications and network facilities are provided for comptuer based training.


High End Retail   Vancouver, BC

A large U.S. Retail company that focuses on the high end market for offshore tourists established a two storey store of approximately 1,858 sm (20,000 sf) in the Robson Street area. Chernoff Thompson Architects worked in collaboration with a New York retail design firm on the base building and tenant improvements.




Vancouver Port Corporation, Executive Offices  Vancouver, BC

Two projects totalling 2,000 sm (21,500 sf) office space, including alterations to the Vancouver Port Corporation Executive Offices for the President and Vice-President on the 19th floor at Granville Square. The project involved a major reconfiguration of the existing offices and construction occurred while maintaining normal business activities. Services included meeting with the users, design, preparing full documentation and contract administration.


Cartier Jewellers   Vancouver, BC

A renovation to a turn of the century brick building to create a high quality 126 sm (1360 sf) retail jewellery store. The corner ground level premises has display windows for public viewing on two sides and a secure glazed "trap" at the entry from the sidewalk.


Law Offices   Vancouver, BC

An 762 sm (8,200 sf) office interior in the Granville Square Tower ovelooking the Trade and Convention Centre. This project created high quality office space for the relocation of an expanding firm of lawyers.
