Contractors for UFV Student Union Building Wins Silver VRCA Awards

Chernoff Thompson Architects would like to congratulate Mierau Contractors Ltd., DRYSTAR Wall & Ceiling Ltd., and Status Electrical Corporation for their Silver Awards in the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) 2015 Awards of Excellence for the the University of the Fraser Valley’s (UFV) Student Union Building. Mierau won in the General Contractors - Up to $15 Million category, DRYSTAR in the Trade Contractors - $1 to $3 Million category, and Status in the Electrical Contractors - Up to $2 Million category.

The new UFV Student Union Building, designed by Chernoff Thompson Architects, is a one stop shop that contains numerous student services and activities including Student Life, CIVL Radio Station, SUB Office, Alumni, Campus Card, Cascade Newspaper, The Canoe Pub, Career Centre, and Aboriginal Resource Centre. There is also a sub-dividable multi-purpose hall. The organization of space is around a 3 storey atrium which is filled with ample natural light and is ideal for student gatherings.

Chernoff Thompson Architects wishes them the best of luck on October 21, when the winner for Gold in each of their respective categories will be announced at the VRCA’s Annual Awards of Excellence Gala.
